New modular furniture collection for collaborative work launches
Unveiled at Salone del Mobile, Area is a modular furniture collection developed in collaboration with Kettal. It features a series of structural columns, tabletops, and integrated accessories designed for adaptability across a variety of collaborative settings – including meeting rooms, co-working spaces, libraries, and cafes. The name, Area, reflects the intention to create a range of surfaces for work.
Mike Holland, Head of Industrial Design at Foster + Partners, said: “Area is a collection of durable, expressive elements that define workstations and gathering points within a space to support both individual and collaborative work. Through iterative prototyping and full-scale models, we explored the relationships between surfaces, supports and human interactions.”
The aluminium column is a structural element, while also accommodating power, data, and lighting infrastructure. Available in three diameters – 90, 160, and 450 millimetres – the system enables different spatial arrangements, including both seated and standing tables.
Tabletops are available in multiple module sizes and shapes including round, rhomboid, and triangular configurations. A concealed J-profile aluminium beam provides structural support, while enabling easy assembly. The beam structure also houses a continuous cable management and optional power provision system, ensuring that every table can readily accept and access installed technology.
The tabletops can be specified in a range of materials including timber, linoleum, melamine, or Fenix, as well as terrazzo and marble for larger conference or feature tables. Structural components are available in anodised and power-coated finishes.
Accessories expand the collection’s functionality and include a fabric screen divider, integrated lighting, and a concealed grommet for power components such as plug sockets, USB-C, cable arrangement, and data power.
